Egg and Sperm Freezing

Exploring Egg and Sperm Freezing Everything You Need to Know

The process of freezing the egg cells taken from the patients without fertilization and using them to have children in the future is defined as egg freezing. Sperm freezing, on the other hand, is a treatment method used to ensure that the sperm collected from the male remains healthy for many years and to have children in the future.

Egg and sperm freezing procedures are applied to certain people today as medical procedures used to protect reproductive health or to increase the chance of having children in the future. Expertise is among the most important issues in sperm and egg-freezing procedures. Expert and clinic choices are among the most important issues in this context.

These treatments, which are the long-term storage of sperm and eggs, which are reproductive cells, in a suitable laboratory environment, are defined as applications that help reproduction in the future. By applying various fast freezing methods, these cells are stored under appropriate conditions and childbearing is supported.

What is Egg and Sperm Freezing?

Egg and sperm freezing are medical procedures that protect reproductive health and increase the chances of having children in the future. Both procedures take place under different conditions. In this context, egg freezing and sperm freezing need to be examined separately. The process of egg and sperm freezing works differently for men and women.

Egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation as it is called in the literature, is a method applied against the risk of women losing their fertility due to advanced age, cancer, or other medical reasons. These collected eggs can be transferred to the woman's uterus by in vitro fertilization (IVF) method at any time in the future to ensure pregnancy in the future.

Sperm freezing is also known as sperm cryopreservation. It refers to the ability of men to freeze and store their sperm. Sperm are transferred to the woman's uterus with in vitro fertilization at any time in the future. Thus, pregnancy is achieved at a later date.

Who Are Suitable Candidates For Egg and Sperm Freezing?

Sperm and egg freezing procedures can be performed for men and women with appropriate general health conditions. In general, these applications can be applied if there is a risk that people who are undergoing cancer treatment or who are candidates for cancer treatment will lose their reproductive health. From time to time, those who want to postpone having children due to career or other reasons may resort to these methods. Among those who undergo egg freezing, women are generally composed of people who have lost their reproductive health due to a certain medical reason.

Men are suitable candidates for sperm freezing. The frozen sperms are stored in suitable environments for later use. In the future, these sperms are transferred to the uterus of suitable candidates and pregnancy can be achieved in this way.

People with cancer treatment, fertility problems, sexually transmitted diseases, surgical interventions, and many other health problems are provided to collect and preserve reproductive cells with these methods in the early period. In this way, those who want to have a baby just before their reproductive ability is lost can have this child in the future.

How is the Egg and Sperm Freezing Procedure Performed?

The process of egg and sperm freezing consists of a few simple application steps. However, different processes work in both methods. Egg freezing procedures in women usually consist of two stages. The process is applied as stimulation of eggs with hormone and drug treatments and collection of eggs by ultrasound.

In sperm freezing, the sperm collected from the male is stored at very low temperatures using liquid nitrogen. The sperm freezing process ensures that these sperm are stored for many years under appropriate conditions to have children in the following period. Depending on the suitability of the collected sperm samples, it is possible to store sperm cells under suitable conditions for a long time.

In both sperm and egg freezing procedures, reproductive cells are frozen and stored to be used for reproductive purposes in the future. Egg and sperm freezing procedures are performed in official fertility clinics and medical centers. Egg and sperm freezing methods can be used in cases of decreased ovarian reserve and for other medical reasons.

What Happens During the Recovery Period After Egg and Sperm Freezing?

Within the scope of egg and sperm freezing procedures, reproductive cells are collected from men and women by different methods. After both processes, the healing process is usually completed in a short and mild manner. After sperm freezing, people usually return to their daily activities immediately. The methods used during the procedure cause minimal discomfort. Freezing procedures are largely painless and easy in this respect.

After egg collection, mild abdominal pain and cramps may occur. It is recommended that women avoid heavy lifting after the procedure. It is also recommended to avoid sexual intercourse for a while. People who have undergone freezing without any problems can return to their daily lives in a short time. IVF egg-freezing and sperm freezing procedures enable these people to have children in the future.

Recovery in egg freezing or sperm freezing process takes place in a very short time. Patients can complete this process with minimal discomfort. The possibility of having a child can be provided for the future period without damaging the sperm and egg cells and by storing them under appropriate conditions.

WHAT IS OVARIAN CYST?

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs or vesicles seen inside the ovary. Normally, during each menstrual period, a cyst called a follicle, which carries the egg cell and can reach 3 cm in size, forms in the ovaries. Then this cyst cracks and the egg is released. In young girls with ovulation problems, normal or physiological follicle cysts that cannot rupture can grow every month and reach 5-10 cm, while small numbers of 0.5-1 cm in size, which we call polycystic ovaries, can be seen in series. Apart from these functional cysts, benign or malignant ovarian cysts can also be seen in all age groups.

Except for the most common functional ovarian cysts, cysts can be benign or malignant tumoral cysts. In addition, as a result of infection, abscess-shaped cysts may occur, which is usually accompanied by pain and high fever.
